The head of WhatsApp Pay, Vinay Choleti, resigned from his position four months ago. Manesh Mahatme, who left WhatsApp to join Amazon in September, will replace Choleti.
In a message on his LinkedIn post resigning, Choletti stated, “I am moving on to my next adventure.” I really believe that WhatsApp has the capacity to fundamentally change financial inclusion and digital payments in India, and I want it to take advantage of that potential.
WhatsApp has launched a payment feature.
The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) approved raising the user cap for WhatsApp’s payments service from the previous 20 million users to 40 million users late last year. In April of this year, WhatsApp obtained approval from NPCI to offer payment services to 100 million users.
18 months were served by Mahatme .
Mahatme spent 18 months working on WhatsApp. He has significantly contributed to the expansion of WhatsApp’s payment capabilities in India. In April of last year, Mahatme was hired as a director and the head of WhatsApp Pay.
India is the messaging app’s largest market, with approximately 400 million users. The UPI-based payment mechanism has had a number of limitations ever since it was stable and listed in November 2020, though.
