NASA postpones lunar landing: NASA has once again postponed its plan to send humans to the moon. Due to issues with the capsule’s heat shield and other factors, the mission has been delayed.
NASA Artemis Launch: The agency has declared that it will postpone its next lunar orbital mission. The mission that is supposed to place two astronauts on the moon will also be delayed as a result of this. The astronauts were originally scheduled to orbit the moon in 2025. However, the plan has now been delayed until April 2026. As a result, the goal of putting humans on the moon has also been delayed until 2027. NASA had previously stated a goal to deploy humans to the moon by 2026.
We will circle the moon first, and then we will land
In actuality, NASA has two significant moon-related missions. Four astronauts will circle the moon on the first mission before heading back to Earth. Two astronauts will then touch down on the moon during the subsequent mission. There is great anticipation for NASA’s plan to land on the moon after fifty years. NASA’s largest initiative since Apollo in the 1960s and 1970s is the Artemis mission. NASA’s Apollo mission sent humans to the moon earlier in 1972.
There has only been one successful launch of NASA’s Artemis mission. The new Space Launch System (SLS) launched an empty spacecraft around the Moon in 2022. Although the capsule’s launch and orbit around the moon were successful, the lower portion of the capsule’s heat shield sustained cracks and other damage on the return trip. Recently, NASA engineers discovered the cause of this and are currently developing a solution. NASA states that understanding the issues and working on solutions is crucial, even if it takes extra time.
There will be numerous adjustments
According to Bill Nelson, head of the space agency, the Orion capsule’s heat shield—which protects against heat—will undergo some modifications. In addition, the capsule’s return route will be modified to ensure a safe return. This trip will also include Canadian astronaut Jerome Hansen, astronauts Victor Glover and Christine Koch, and commander and astronaut Reid Wiseman.
