Wipro Pay Cuts: The employee union for the Information Technology (IT) sector. “Knights,” wrote to the Union Labor Minister to protest Wipro’s decision to reduce the compensation offer for graduates waiting for recruitment. The corporation is being accused by the union of breaking the contract and violating the provisions of the offer letter. And the union has urged stern action against it. Knights expressed concern for the impacted employees and warned. Wipro’s action could serve as a dangerous model for other businesses, resulting in “greater worker exploitation and employment insecurity.”
Letter sent to Bhupendra Yadav, minister of labor
In a case involving Wipro, the letter was sent to Labor Minister Bhupendra Yadav by the Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES). Recently, the union asked some Wipro employees if they would prefer to work at a wage rate of Rs 3.5 lakh per year instead of the Rs 6.5 lakh per year that Wipro had previously requested them to accept.
The appointments for these applicants have not yet been made.
“The corporation is now unethically cutting the remuneration. It is a blatant breach of the terms and conditions of the offer letter.” Writes Harpreet Singh Saluja, chairman of “Knights,” in a letter. In response to Wipro’s “unethical reduction in the pay offer of more than 4,000 employees,” the employees’ union has called for appropriate action.
