To limit the number of traffic accidents on the Yamuna Expressway, the speed of vehicles has been reduced from 15 December to 15 February due to fog.
From Thursday, small cars that were previously traveling at a speed of 100 km/h will travel at a speed of 80 km/h. Additionally, the top speed limit for large vehicles will be 60 kph. Furthermore, a fine has been included for exceeding the speed limit.
A survey claims that the Yamuna Expressway experiences a rise in traffic accidents every year between December 15 and February 15, with high speed and fog being the primary contributing factors.
The automobiles frequently crash with other parked cars because of the high speed. Even though there are speed cameras on the freeway, there is no speed restriction.
The Yamuna Expressway Authority has therefore decided to lower the posted speed restriction. For going beyond the speed limit, there will be fines.
Currently, the Yamuna Expressway has a set speed limit of 100 km/h. Starting on December 15, the top speed limit for light cars will be 80 km/h and for heavy vehicles 60 km/h.
This has been done since unexpected stops for large vehicles are challenging because of their high speed. A fine will be assessed for anyone who violates the posted speed restriction.
