The All India Football Federation has been suspended by FIFA with immediate effect. The Football Federation of India has been suspended by FIFA owing to improper third-party interference. Not only this, but FIFA has also snatched the hosting of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022 to be held in India in October.

According to a statement from FIFA, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) would be suspended immediately for “unnecessary involvement” by the FIFA Council Bureau. This is a flagrant infraction of FIFA regulations.

FIFA has said that the suspension will be lifted after ordering the AIFF Executive Committee and the AIFF administration to set up a committee of administrators to exercise complete control over day-to-day affairs.

FIFA’s statement said that the suspension means that the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022 to be held in India from 11-30 October 2022 will also not take place. FIFA claimed that it was evaluating the tournament’s future steps and will contact the bureau if necessary.

FIFA said that it is in constant touch with India’s sports ministry and is hopeful that the matter can yield positive results.

Earlier this month, FIFA threatened to suspend the AIFF for third-party interference. Just a few days after the Supreme Court ordered the AIFF to hold elections, a warning was issued. On August 28, the AIFF elections will take place. The matter is to be heard in the Supreme Court on August 17.
