Earlier on August 22, an earthquake of magnitude 3.3 struck 62 km east-northeast of Katra, 10 km below the ground level.
Surprisingly, is there any major underground activity going on east-northeast of Katra? Because Jammu and its adjoining areas such as Mandi in Himachal, Dharamsala, and Sopore in Kashmir lie between zone five of Srinagar and Anantnag. Zone 5 is considered the most dangerous zone for earthquakes. Areas falling in this region are prone to more damage due to earthquakes.
Professor Kamal, a scientist from the Department of Earth Sciences, IIT Roorkee and in charge of the earthquake early warning system for the Uttarakhand project, spoke to aajtak about these earthquakes. This creates tension between the two plates. If this happens, an earthquake occurs. Right now people do not need to be afraid of these small earthquakes.

They can leave all the workplaces and run towards safe places. Those who are in the fifth and fourth zones of the earthquake, need to be alert. Because we cannot prevent or avert earthquakes. Therefore it is necessary that an early warning system be installed.

We have started the first such system in Uttarakhand. The government is trying its best to put in place such systems.

There are thousands of sensors installed in Japan as well. Thousands of sensors will have to be installed in the Himalayas themselves. It has to be planted separately on the ground.
IIT Roorkee has developed an app for an early warning system. Its name is Uttarakhand Earthquake Alert. Through this app, we raise an alarm on one of the months of every month. Which will sound when an actual earthquake occurs. That is, as soon as the alarm rings, you immediately go to a safe place. Apart from this, early warning notification messages will also come.
