In India, the practice of altering cars is becoming more popular. To make their car more fashionable and appealing, people modify it in different ways. Certain modifications to cars, however, are prohibited, and the police have the authority to issue tickets for them. According to the Indian Motor Vehicles Act, of 1988, no changes can be made to it that differ from the data given by the manufacturer on the Registration Certificate (RC). In addition, before making any changes to it, you must obtain approval from the RTO.
Alteration of license plate
Any alteration to an automobile’s license plate is prohibited. The RTO must grant clearance for a number plate change.
Tinted Windows
Fully tinting an automobile window is prohibited. Visibility via tinted windows should be at least 70%. This benchmark was established in light of rising crime rates. Should the visibility be lower than this, a hefty fine might be imposed.
Modification of silencer
It is forbidden to alter an automobile’s silencer. For adjustments in the silencer, clearance is necessary from the RTO. The performance of your car is also impacted by modified silencers, which produce an extremely loud noise. You might have to pay if you are found in possession of a modified silencer there.
Big tires
It’s against the law for a car’s tires to be bigger than the recommended size. The weight of the car increases and the handling of the vehicle is impacted if the tire size is larger than the recommended limit. Any further alterations to the vehicle that compromise its performance or safety are prohibited.
