On Vijay Diwas PM recalls 1971 war, says nation is indebted to army

Vijay Diwas: On December 16, 1971, the Indian military overcame the Pakistani Army in an effort to liberate Bangladesh. Which had previously been a part of East Pakistan. The 13-day war claimed the lives of more than 3,000 Indian soldiers.

The nation was led by Prime Minister  Modi in honouring the soldiers who lost their lives while performing their duty in 1971. The conflict with Pakistan to liberate Bangladesh.

In addition to paying their tributes at the National War Memorial in Delhi. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan were present.

Also Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari & Vice Chief of Indian Navy Vice Admiral SN Ghormade also attended.

A tweet from PM Modi stated: “I honour all the heroic members of the armed forces who helped India achieve a remarkable victory in the war of 1971 on Vijay Diwas. The military’s contribution to maintaining national security will never be forgotten by our country. (sic) “.

Rajnath Singh emphasised in a tweet that the 1971 war “was the triumph of humanity over inhumanity, virtue over misbehaviour and justice over injustice,” adding that “India is proud of its Armed Forces.”

President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Modi were present at the Army House “At Home” reception on Thursday to celebrate India’s triumph over Pakistan.

On December 16, 1971, the Indian military overcame the Pakistani Army in an effort to liberate Bangladesh, which had previously been a part of East Pakistan. The 13-day war claimed the lives of more than 3,000 Indian soldiers.

Before the Indian forces, about 93,000 Pakistani soldiers put down their guns. It is noted as being the largest military surrender following World War II.

Vijay Diwas is the name given to the day.
