Online gaming in India’s future is going to be decided.

The proposal to control only games of skill and exempt games of chance from regulation was rejected by the Prime Minister’s Office.

This implies that any game that generates revenue, including all similar online games, will fall under Indian jurisdiction.

The laws that the government is currently drafting are thought to decide how gaming will develop in the future.

In this context, the administration has solicited input from all relevant parties. To ensure that the regulation of this has no gaps, tax experts’ opinions are also being sought in addition to this.

The fact that the online gaming industry is expanding quickly is one explanation for this.

In India, chance games are viewed as gambling, which is prohibited practically everywhere in the country.

The state governments have the authority to decide whether something should be prohibited or not.  Now, it’s conceivable that both skill games and games of chance will fall under the purview of regulation.

An Indian committee that created the rule proposed a new body in August to determine whether a game is one of talent or chance. The committee recommended that once decided, the Skill Games Regulation apply.

The internet gaming industry is expanding.

According to research firm Redseeer, the gaming industry will be worth $7 billion by 2026. Games with real money will rule it.

Institutional investors are investing heavily in gaming in India because of how quickly its industry is growing.

Startups for the cricket industry, Dream 11 and Mobile Premier League, have received funding from institutional investors including Tiger Global and Sequoia.

Gaming’s definition has been up for debate.

India’s definition of gaming has generated debate. According to the Supreme Court, some fantasy games like the card game Rummy are both skill-based and acceptable.

The High Courts of various states have simultaneously expressed differing opinions regarding games like poker.

The rules are now being written by the IT Ministry and the Prime Minister’s Office.  The federal government will provide a comprehensive concept of the games, and the state governments will be granted the authority to ban or not.

The future of gambling and games of chance will only be decided by the state governments.
