In a significant move before Maharashtra’s assembly elections, Eknath Shinde’s administration said that the toll tax would be eliminated. The government’s decision to eliminate the toll charge as of right now is a huge comfort to those traveling to and from Mumbai. The government has decided to eliminate the light vehicle toll tax at each of the five toll plazas constructed at Mumbai’s entry points. Every day, over 2.8 lakh autos will benefit from this government action. The removal of the toll charge will also result in significant financial savings for those who use these highways daily.

These vehicles will be toll-free starting today.

The state government, led by Eknath Shinde, exempted light motor vehicles from paying tolls at all five toll booths for entry into Mumbai before the Maharashtra elections. As of right now, visitors visiting Mumbai in compact cars will not be required to pay toll taxes. The people who go to and from Mumbai daily for work will most gain from this. Small vehicles traveling through all five toll booths—located at LBS Road, the Eastern Express Highway in Mulund, the Airoli Creek Bridge, the Western Express Highway in Dahisar, and the Vashi Creek Bridge—are exempt from paying tolls, according to information provided by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC). This judgment will help about 2.8 lakh light motor vehicles.

By eliminating the toll fee, how much will you save?

At the toll plazas in Dahisar, Mulund, Thane, Airoli, and Vashi, the government has eliminated the toll for cars and small vehicles. Heavy motor vehicle (HMV) toll collection, however, will carry on as usual. To enter Mumbai, cars must go through these five toll plazas. At these tolls, small cars must pay toll taxes that range from Rs 45 to Rs 75. You must pay at least Rs 45 in toll tax if you drive past any of these toll plazas. You will spend 45*5 = ₹225 in a week if you use these toll plazas even five days a week. This implies that you only spend ₹11700 annually as toll tax. Similarly, people driving SUVs have to pay ₹75 as toll tax at these toll plazas. That means if you go to the office even for 5 days a week, you spend about Rs 375 every week and Rs 19500 in a year. By removing the toll tax, you can save this amount completely.
