The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced masked Aadhaar Card as a tool to improve privacy and limit the exposure of Aadhaar data. In a masked Aadhaar, portions of the Aadhaar number’s digits are obscured, but crucial demographic information like a person’s name, picture, and QR code are still clearly visible. The UIDAI issues Aadhaar, a 12-digit unique identity number, in accordance with the biometric and demographic information provided.
A version of your Aadhaar card known as a masked Aadhaar has the first eight digits of your Aadhaar number changed to an ‘X’. This safeguards your privacy and stops unauthorized use of your Aadhaar number.
The following are some advantages of utilizing a Masked Aadhaar Card:
- Your privacy is protected.
- This stops your Aadhaar number from being misused.
- The vast majority of organizations accept it.
- You can share your disguised Aadhaar number rather than your complete Aadhaar number if you need to share your Aadhaar number with someone. Your privacy will be preserved as a result.
You can take the following actions to receive a masked aadhaar
- Go to the UIDAI website at https://uidai.gov.in/ and select “Download Aadhaar” from the “My Aadhaar” section.
- You’ll be taken to a page where you may download Aadhaar.
- Enter your full name, pin code, and security code in addition to your 12- or 16-digit Aadhaar or Virtual ID (VID) number.
- Choose “Masked Aadhaar” under “Choose your preference” to hide your Aadhaar.
- Choose to get your registered cellphone number’s OTP (One-Time Password).
- Complete the verification procedure by entering the OTP that was obtained.

- It’s crucial to keep your Masked Aadhaar Card document secure and to avoid giving it to anyone you don’t trust.
