Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur announced during the cabinet meeting that the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) has been extended for another five years, starting on January 1, 2024. This programme was formerly extended to December 31, 2023. According to the minister, the programme will cost roughly Rs 11.8 lakh crore over the following five years. At the election rally, it was declared that

the programme would continue, giving each beneficiary 5 kg of free food grains each month in addition to 5 kg of subsidised food goods under the National Food Security Act (NFSA). The PMGKAY Free Grain Guarantee Scheme was brought under the NFSA in December 2022 after being extended multiple times. Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently declared that the free food grain programme would be extended for an additional five years during an electoral rally in Chhattisgarh.Ration Card

Ration Card: Benefits for residents of 36 states and union territories:

The NFSA provides coverage for residents of 36 states and union territories. A ‘New Year’s present to the country’s disadvantaged’, according to government authorities, is the cabinet’s decision. The recipients will not be required to pay for the grains. During the Covid epidemic in 2020, PMGKAY was first introduced. This allows the government to give anyone who meets the NFSA quota 5 kg of food grains for free.Ration Card

Currently, recipients of the National Food Security Act (NFSA) receive

food grains at a cost of Rs 1-3 kg. Each month, 5 kg of food grains are sent to low-income families as part of this programme. Families under the Antodya Anna Yojana (AAY) receive 35 kg of grains each month.
