You must have heard about PM Kisan Yojana. The name of this scheme is also Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi. According to reports, the Aadhaar card data of 11 crore farmers has been leaked from the website of PM Kisan Yojana. A security researcher has given this information.

Atul Nair has told in his post that there is an endpoint in the Dashboard feature of the PM-Kisan website, from where the Aadhaar numbers of area-based farmers are being exposed. Cyber attackers can easily use this data.

What is included in the leaked data?
Nair is a security researcher and according to his LinkedIn page, he volunteers for the Kerala Police Cyberdome. He told that he has got a small sample of the data related to the Aadhaar of farmers.

This sample contains the details of farmers’ Aadhaar numbers and other data. He shared this data with TechCrunch, which claims that he has matched the leaked data with the help of the Finder tool of the PM Kisan website.

Is this scheme to help farmers?
Let us tell you that Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana is a step taken by the government to help the farmers. Under this scheme, farmers get government assistance of Rs 6000 in a year.

In this, Aadhaar data of farmers is required for registration. The aadhaar number is a unique 12-digit number, available to every Indian citizen. People have to use Aadhaar for almost all essential services.

Is the problem fixed now?
Atul Nair has shared the information about this data leak on Medium. He has also shared the screenshot of this in his post. However, now this problem has been fixed.

According to reports, Nair had apprised the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) about the problem on 29 January 2022. On this, CERT-In had told that their report has been sent to the responsible officers.
