The new rule has made it simpler for certain consumers to obtain a new SIM while making it more challenging for others to do so. Rules for getting a sim
The government has changed the rules of SIM. As of right now, the new regulation prohibits the business from offering a new SIM to anyone under the age of 18.
At the same time, customers above 18 years can verify themselves for their new SIM with Aadhaar or any document kept in DigiLocker.
Let us inform you that this DoT action is a component of the telecom reforms that the Cabinet approved on September 15, 2021.
Now users will have to pay just Re 1 for authentication through UIDAI’s Aadhaar based e-KYC service for a new mobile connection.

These users will not get a new sim!
According to the new rules of the Department of Telecommunications, now the company does not get SIM cards for users below the age of 18 years.
In addition, if a person has a mental illness, a new SIM card will not be given to them.
The telecom firm that sold the SIM will be held liable if such a person is discovered breaking the restrictions.

Under the new rule, now customers will get SIM at their home through UIDAI based verification. Actually, earlier for mobile connections or from prepaid to postpaid, customers had to go through the KYC process.
