Income Tax Return Filing Update: The last date to file ITR was July 31. If you have not filled your ITR, now you can fill it immediately with a penalty. Meanwhile, let us tell you that the government has changed another major rule of ITR. The government has tightened the rules for e-verification. The Ministry of Finance announced that such individuals will now only have 30 days for e-verification.
Department-issued order!
As per the order, the Income Tax Department has reduced the deadline for submission of ITR-V e-Verification or hard copy of ITR-V after filing of Income Tax returns to 30 beginning on August 1, days from the current 120 days. That is, gone. The department had announced changes in the deadline by issuing a notification on July 29. That is, the last date for e-verification for those who submitted ITR on August 1 is August 31.
These rules have been made applicable to taxpayers who file their income tax returns on or after August 1. As per the new notification of CBDT, now the date of submission of the electronic return will be considered as same when Form ITR-V is submitted. within 30 days after the date of electronic data transmission.
Verification is mandatory
Income Tax regulations provide that if an ITR is not validated after filing, it will not be regarded as genuine. There are six ways to confirm this in accordance with the rule. ITR-1, ITR-2, and ITR-4 audits are typically not necessary. Let us know in which ways ITR verification can be done.
You can e-verify ITR in these ways
1. Through Aadhaar OTP
2. By using net banking to access the e-filing account
3. EVC through Bank Account Number
iv. EVC through Demat Account Number
v. EVC through Bank ATM
vi. By mailing a signed copy of the ITR-V to the CPC in Bengaluru
How to e-verify ITR through Aadhaar
Step 1: Visit https://www.incometax.gov.in to access your e-filing account.
Step 2: From the Quick Links menu, choose e-Verify Return.
Step 3: Select Verify using OTP on the mobile number registered with Aadhaar in it. Then click on the e-Verify screen.
Step 4: Select ‘Agree to Verify Aadhaar Details’ checked on the Aadhaar OTP screen. Then click on Generate Aadhaar OTP.
Step 5: Click Validate after entering the 6-digit OTP that was issued to your Aadhaar-registered mobile number.
Step 6: Bear in mind that this OTP has a 15-minute validity window. Three attempts will be provided to enter the proper OTP. You will also see an OTP expiry countdown timer on the screen, which will notify you when OTP is received. In contrast, a fresh OTP will be generated and sent to you when you click Resend OTP.
Step 7: A page containing a success message and the transaction ID will now show up. For future usage, keep the transaction ID close to hand. A confirmation message will also be sent to the e-mail and mobile number provided by you on the filing portal.
